Industry projects and contract research
We process a large part of our projects under direct orders from industry. This reflects the wide range of our spectrum of services, ranging from feasibility, market, and trend studies through systems development and implementation to strategy development as well as process and organizational design.

Cooperative projects under public funding
We organize and coordinate project consortia for research projects under public funding both nationally and internationally. Together with our scientific and industrial partner organizations, we develop and test innovative methods and procedures.

Strategic up-front research
Basic research under public funding provides the basis for contract research for clients. For this purpose, the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO takes part in fundamental research projects of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). In addition, the institute cooperates actively in funding programs of the Fraunhofer Society. This includes both market-oriented strategic up-front research and economy-oriented strategic alliances.
